Tee Changes at Northbridge Golf Club

Northbridge Golf Club is excited to announce an update to our tee system, designed to make the course more enjoyable and inclusive for everyone. The number and positions of tees will change, with a total of four tees rated for both men and women. We are doing this to encourage golfers to play from tees suitable to their level of skill and handicap, rather than being based on gender or having to play from the tees that happen to be out on the day.

This will take effect from Saturday, 14 June 2025.

New Tee Setup

The available tees will now be, from longest to shortest: Black, Orange, White, Blue.

  • Black tees: our longest and most challenging course, previously the Blue tees.
  • Orange tees: a combination of the former Red and White tees.
  • White tees: a combination of the former Green and Pink tees. A great choice for women currently playing off the current Green or Pink tees or for men looking for a less difficult course, but don’t want to move all the way forward.
  • Blue tees: the shortest course, similar to the old Black tees except a bit shorter on some holes that have either a forced carry or a more difficult tee shot.

This change aims to encourage the use of forward tees based on player ability rather than gender.

What This Means for You

  • In most competitions, players will be able to choose the tee that best suits their ability or feeling on the day.
  • Everyone will compete together in the same multi-tee competition.
  • A separate women’s competition will continue to be available on Saturdays, although the women will be free to choose to play in the main competition if they wish to compete for larger prizes.
  • Handicaps will adjust automatically based on the tee chosen.

Benefits to members

  • Improved golfing experience: With the new tees and updated ratings, members will play a more enjoyable but still challenging course, much better suited to their skill and driving distance.
  • Flexibility: Four tees to choose from in every competition without, for example, having to elect to play off either the longest or shortest course of the day.
  • Fewer lost balls: and “three off the tee” with shorter forced carries over water, gullies and rough.
  • Better wear distribution: The new tee designations will help distribute wear across the tee boxes, ensuring better tee conditions and longevity of the course, especially in wet conditions.
  • Improved pace of play: Spending less time searching for lost balls leads to faster rounds, as ball searches are a major cause of slow play.

Other Updates

  • Small changes will be made to scratch and slope ratings
  • Course lengths will also be slightly adjusted

To help you get familiar with the new tee system, we’ll be hosting a series of information sessions in the clubhouse following golf rounds in the weeks after the launch. We encourage you to join us after your round on a Wednesday, Thursday, or Saturday to learn more and ask any questions. As always, we welcome your feedback—feel free to share your thoughts by emailing us at feedback@northbridgegolfclub.com.au
